Circumcision

Circumcision: What You Should Know

Circumcision is a simple procedure that removes the foreskin from the tip of the penis. Our office can perform this procedure for newborns under one-month of age.

The decision to circumcise your infant is a personal choice. If you are considering having your baby boy circumcised we are available to discuss any questions you may have.

What are the benefits of circumcision?

There may be some minor medical benefits to circumcision. Studies have shown baby boys who were circumcised were less likely to develop urinary tract infections, especially within the first few years of life. Later in life, circumcision can also reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Circumcision can also be performed for religious or cultural reasons.

You should also speak with our team about your current health insurance, as circumcision is often covered but only for newborns. If you decide to wait, your health insurance may not cover the cost of the procedure, since it’s considered an elective procedure. Families wanting to pursue a circumcision for infants over 1 month of age will be referred to urology.
